The movie explores the consequences of Paul’s radical life choices and reveals startling, self-fulfilling parallels to his fictional work. Any doubt that an artist might somehow be separate from his creation is summarily dashed.
The film tackles ideas of love, identity, loyalty, success vs. failure, hero-worship, unhealthy habits, certainty of death, and the creative force that somehow glues it all together.
